Javascript Bogging It Down?
Hi, first off, I love SB Nation and the absolutely fantastic blogs that can be found here. The site designs are great and easy to navigate as well.
However, I've noticed my experience get slower and slower over the last 2 months or so, and I was wondering if this was due to new Javascript features that are being put in or something?
It can often take 30 seconds for me to completely load a homepage, which is frustrating because I cannot view the 'My Blogs' dropdown until all of the JS has been loaded. Much of the page content will appear, but the 'loading' cycle will continue for a while, which hints to me that this is a javascript/images thing.
I just thought I'd bring it up because I notice that at least 7 scripts are called upon load (looking at source), and it's been a very recent thing (last few months).
I use Firefox 3 on Windows Vista and Ubuntu 8.0.4 and 8.10. Problems experienced on both OSes.
Thanks!

Fixed.
The problem seems to have gone away a few days after I posted this. Good work.
The pages are loading faster everywhere I go and from wherever I browse.

was this happening only on SB Nation sites?
We’ve pushed a few performance upgrades here and there, but nothing that corresponds exactly to the improvements you saw. Please let us know if anything like this happens again, or if you have any other insights. And thanks for your help!
I'm one of four guys who built SB Nation 2.0. Please enjoy.

It's Really Slowed Down Again Recently
I may have spoke too soon. I’m not sure if it’s server load or maintenance or anything else, but the similar behavior is back. If you would rather I submit a ticket or if you email me, I can do that.

I don't know if these are used on the blogs you're on
But I’ve noticed that two things really slow down load times:
1) embedded sounds (had this problem with badlefthook a while back)
2) the livechat plugin (have had this problem with DRaysBay today, which had a chat this afternoon).

Also
Maybe try reducing the number of stories you see on the front page. The blogs with more graphics, etc. just take a lot longer to load. This one takes no time at all though.

Yeah, I think You are Right
MileHighReport is the primary culprit and they have lots of stories and graphics. The right sidebar is what seems to be taking forever, which is full of icons and Javascript.
