RECKLESS KELLY BAND MEMBERS JOIN LOWE’S HEROES
TO REFURBISH YOUTH BASEBALL FIELDS
& ANNOUNCE 3RD CELEBRITY SOFTBALL JAM

Funds Raised from Band’s 2nd Event Go for Paint, Fences and Bullpens

Austin, TX — Members of Austin-based roots-rock band Reckless Kelly rolled up their sleeves last week and joined employees of four Lowe’s Home Improvement stores to refurbish two playing fields for two Austin youth sports groups — putting to use some of the funds raised from the band’s 2nd Celebrity Softball Jam held at the Dell Diamond in Round Rock in April 2010.

Between building and painting, band members Cody and Willy Braun and Jay Nazz announced the date of the 3rd Celebrity Softball Jam: Sunday, May 1, 2011.

At the Montopolis Little League field in East Austin, the Brauns and Nazz joined league coach Israel Lopez and a dozen “Lowe’s Heroes,” employees from stores in Leander and Round Rock, to build and paint an outfield fence to keep car lights off the playing field during games.

At the Balcones Youth Sports field in Central Austin, they joined league president Brad Hughes and 25 other “Lowe’s Heroes,” employees from Lowe’s of Northeast Austin and Lowe’s of Hutto, to repair and paint bleachers, picnic tables and bathroom walls and floors. They also built new bullpens adjacent to both senior field dugouts.

“It was a great day to see the work at hand and help out for the sake of the kids,” said Reckless Kelly front man Willy Braun. “We’ve had a blast doing the past two Celebrity Softball Jams. We wanted to be a part of the result of the funds raised and donated by the fans.

“We were part of a team today of great employees from Lowe’s, who gave their time, tools and expertise to the projects we worked on,” Braun continued. “Thanks to all of the Lowe’s Heroes.”

In two years, Reckless Kelly has raised more than $65,000 for five area youth baseball groups, the Miracle Leagues at Town & Country and San Antonio, South Austin Little League, Balcones Little League and Montopolis Little League, from its Celebrity Softball Jams held in 2009 and 2010 at the Dell Diamond in Round Rock.

Both events drew more than 5,000 fans each to watch the softball games and outfield concerts that featured two teams, Sultans of Sing and One Hit Wonders, made up of sports greats and musicians such as, in April 2010, MLB players Greg Swindell and Kirk Dressendorfer, boxing champion Jesse James Lieja and NFL players Ahmad Brooks and Eric Winston, members of Reckless Kelly, Cross Canadian Ragweed, the Randy Rogers Band and The Trishas as well as Pauline Reese, Cory Morrow, Asleep at the Wheel’s Ray Benson, and many other Texas music artists and acts.

Tickets for the 3rd Reckless Kelly Celebrity Softball Jam will go on sale in December at the Dell Diamond box office and through the band’s Web site.
