Planning for the Sounder at Heart CONCACAF Champions League Viewing Party started about two months ago. In partnering with Golazo, Big Al's and Steve Zakuani's Kingdom Hope we managed to arrange an all-ages event that had beer, a huge projection screen, free non-alcoholic beverages and a way to get our 2012 scarf into our readers hands. Initial estimates were that we'd get maybe 150 people.
We were wrong.
Instead over 350 people were at the event. We raised at least 1100 dollars for the charity partner (Kingdom Hope), in all it was a huge success. Demand for more events is increasing. Last year we did two. The year before one, and the only people that showed up were other bloggers.
Our goals for the rest of 2012's MLS season are increasing. We have a larger group of readers than we thought. Scarf demand is greater than we'd expect and our skills as writers need to be supplemented with skills as event planners.
