Although Harden’s shot may have helped us take 6th seed on the standings, missing that shot may help Houston get past the first round of the Playoffs. Although you may say that we will lose a game on Golden State, this could help us play Memphis in the first round of the Playoffs instead of Denver.
At the moment Houston sits in 7th position and if the playoffs were today we would be playing San Antonio but Houston have a big possibility of making the 6th seed. Houston have 3 game left and Golden State have 2. At the moment Houston are 44-35 and Golden State are 45-35. If Houston at the end of the Playoffs have a tied record Houston wins the tiebreaker and would take 6th seed. The remaining games for Houston are Sacramento, Phoenix and (maybe) the Kobe-less Lakers. Golden State have 2 games against San Antonio and Portland. I am predicting Golden State to lose to San Antonio and beat Portland. If that happens Houston only have to win 2 of their 3 games to take 6th seed. If Golden State wins both, Houston have to win all their games. And if Golden State Lose both Houston only have to win 1. It looks like this:
GSW 2-0 HOU 3-0
GSW 1-1 HOU 2-1
GSW 0-2 HOU 1-2.
Still you may question why Harden’s missed shot helps us. It goes like this, at the moment if Houston takes the 6th seed we would play Denver. At the moment the standings the 3rd,4th and 5th seeds in the West go like this:
3 Denver 54-25
4 LA Clip.53-26
The reason for the Clippers being ahead of Memphis is because if you lead a division you take a place in the top 4, which means that Clippers will stay in 4th position. If you take out the Clippers it looks like this:
3 Denver 54-25
Denver would take the tiebreaker and take 3rd seed if they are to finish on a tie. So for Memphis to take the 3rd seed they need to be a game ahead of Denver so it looks like this:
DEN 3-0 MEM TAKE SEED 5
DEN 2-1 MEM 3-0
DEN 1-2 MEM 2-1
DEN 0-3 MEM 1-2.
If Memphis are to take the 3rd seed (Thanks to Harden) many fans may still say that Denver would be an easier opponent than Memphis, but I think that Houston could take Memphis out of the playoffs. Although Houston are 1-3 against Memphis this year, the first game we lost mainly because of poor shooting of James Harden at 22 percent. Houston then smashed Memphis in the next game but then lost the next game against Memphis. Then in the 4th game which was played today, Houston was missing a key shooter, Chandler Parsons and also missing an unfit Delfino.Parsons was the person we needed to help us out when our offence couldn't find anyone. If the playoffs end up going like this I believe Houston can take Memphis all the way to at least a 7th game and maybe win it.
