Long time reader, but only been a member starting this month [July 2013].
I have been longtime regular over at ESPN's B1G Blog. Recently ESPN posted the following message when you login this:
"Effective July 17, ESPN will be transitioning all conversations to Facebook comments. At that time a Facebook account will be required to post comments on new articles. Previous comments and conversations will be closed to comment but can still be viewed."
This is total unacceptable for me and many other regulars of ESPN. Being in IT, I consider being logged into Facebook, to be a problem. So now I and other regulars have been on a "hard target search" for a replacement. At least 50% of us plan on being regulars of OTE and maybe our various Team blogs on the SB Nation.
Some of us have questions. I will start with mine and pass along any others from other users via the comments below.
- Why only able to edit for 90 seconds? I find that to be to tight of a time frame. Should be more like 5 minutes or even unlimited. But maybe says last edited with time stamp.
- Would be real nice to have the option to switch the listing order of the comments, instead of only oldest to newest, an option to change that newest to oldest would be nice. Could even add most liked aka "rec" at top as an option. One other option could be most replied at top.
- It would be nice to see who like your posts. Many of us run a script for ESPN website to do this, but FOX Sport and some other websites let you see who likes your posts.
- Why can you not add comments after one month? That seems way to short of a time frame. Why even have an article listed if you cannot comment? I personally think a better time frame would be one year. I saw a great post about the origin of your avatar and want to post my story, but the comments were closed. Really not a fan of limiting peoples voices. Lots of website do not have this limit.
Overall I like many of the features of OTE and SB Nation. I even wrote my first real article Sunday. I think I am going to enjoy this website. Thank you for listening to my questions and look forward to the answers, what ever they be.

PS, If you ever require Facebook or even Google+ as the only way to login to your website. I will no longer be able to participate. Social media login is ruining the Internet.
