The Texas Rangers are a team prepared to make a serious run in the AL West in 2010. Our minor league site Minor League Ball had the opportunity to interview the Rangers Director of Professional Scouting Josh Boyd. Interestingly, he comes down on the scouting side of the great stats/scouting debate.
SICKELS: How much does statistical analysis factor into the organization's evaluations?BOYD: Statistical evaluation plays a significant role in our decisions, however, we rely heavily on the judgment of our scouting staff first and foremost. We've increased both our scouting staff and our baseball ops staff in the last two years enabling us to continue to dig deeper on all fronts. I believe we have a very versatile staff in that manner.
