New, 1 comment

SB Nation just keeps rising higher and higher like the San Francisco Giants. Thus featured blogs include McCovey Chronicles, Stumptown Footy, For Whom the Cowbell Tolls and Jewels from the Crown.

A toast to the October featured blogs.
A toast to the October featured blogs.

This is the space where we celebrate our blogs who rise above the rest and soar a little bit higher. October 2014 brought us some incredible work from some amazing blogs.

Without further ado, here are the featured blogs for this past month. Go give them a visit.

The San Francisco Giants just won the World Series, but the real winner is Grant Brisbee and McCovey Chronicles for being one of the very best blogs on our network. McCovey Chronicles has it all -- one of the best writers anywhere in Grant, excellent coverage of every facet of the team, and one of the funniest, most endearing community of commenters anywhere. Grant's thoughts on Madison Bumgarner's World Series gem perfectly captures everything we're trying to accomplish here at SB Nation and is at once funny, brilliant, analytical, and coming straight from the voice of a fan.

For Whom the Cowbell Tolls is the perfect blog for the perfect time. As Mississippi State made its historic rise to No. 1 in the first ever College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings, FWtCT handled their business as always, absolutely killing it on social media and on their outstanding site alike. With the best collection of easily digestible Mississippi State Bulldogs news and humor anywhere on the internet along with comprehensive, premium caliber game coverage, Justin Sutton, cristilmethod and team continue to rise as precipitously as their football equivalents. If you aren't already following FWtCT, what are you waiting for?

This was not the season most were expecting from the Portland Timbers, but that hasn't stopped Stumptown Footy from improving the way they cover the team. William Conwell has helped foster an environment where criticism and celebration can peacefully coexist aside one another. The player-by-player report card was a perfect example of this, taking a somewhat cliche concept and sprucing it up with some refreshing honesty about the various performances of the players.

Jewels From The Crown has had a big year. Their Kings are Stanley Cup champions yet again, and they're growing a great site in an underserved market. But they were thrown a curveball in October when defenseman Slava Voynov was arrested for domestic assault. We don't know the specifics of the case just yet and Voynov remains off the ice, but their handling of the story from the start was professional and well-measured. Eric, John, langluy and Co. are an example what bloggers should aspire to be when these unfortunate situations take place in our sports and with our teams.

And that's it. Congratulations to the featured blogs and to Grant especially (and that's coming from an A's fan so it pains me to say that about something the Giants did!).
