October brings with it fall, changing leaves and also two great sports in hockey and basketball. They join college football and soccer this month in sharing the featured blogs spotlight.
I personally love October what with the Halloween treats, falling leaves, World Series and renewed hope for hockey fans. Plus it finally cools off in Southern California...kinda.
Here are the featured blogs for the month, congratulations to all!The NBA is back! October is a fun time of year for hoops fans as all 30 teams start with equal records and hopes and dreams are just waiting to be crushed. The Detroit Pistons are one team that's had its share of disappointment over the recent past but with two impressive wins to open the season our fine writers at Detroit Bad Boys have reason to be...well, at least cautiously not pessimistic.
Like the Pistons, DBB spent the offseason retooling their roster and preparing for a long campaign. With the addition of several new writers, the site is now near the top of our SB Nation NBA league in posts per day and they continue to deliver quality content that their fans have come to expect over the years. Good luck, Pistons!
Anthony Broome is still new to the managerial gig at Maize n Brew, but with a talented staff and the rebirth of MIchigan football under Jim Harbaugh, MnB is quickly becoming an SB Nation juggernaut on the college network. MnB notably owned the moments after the last-second, heartbreaking loss to Michigan State, including following up with former punter Zoltan Mesko to provide insight into that incredible play, and has provided excellent wall-to-wall coverage all month. Aided by consistent recruiting coverage like this, MnB is now a must-read for any Michigan Man.
Stars and Stripes FC has long been a must-read blog for fans of the United States' various national team whenever there are important matches going on. But over the last few months, they've become a must-read site virtually every day. Perhaps the best example of the kind of writing they are doing with impressive regularity is this piece by Stephanie Yang about the legacy of Abby Wambach. Highly enjoyable and enlightening work.
Stanley Cup of Chowder gets the nod as an SB Nation featured blog this month not for their NHL coverage, which is as solid as ever, but due to their additional coverage of hockey outside of the Bruins. They've amped up their coverage of the AHL's Providence Bruins, and they've added coverage of not one but two women's hockey teams in the city of Boston, the CWHL's Blades and the NWHL's Pride. Nowhere else in the city can you get strong coverage of these four teams from one publication like this, making SCOC more than just a Bruins blog these days.
That's it for October. Congrats to all the blogs for being the cream of our crop.
